VMware vCenter Server 6.0 – Installation and Configuration

Preinstallation
- Verify the compute platform meets the minimum hardware requirements
  - (2) x64 processors or (1) dual core x64 processor
  - (8) GB of RAM
  - (17) GB of free disk space
  - (1) NIC (preferably GbE)
- Verify you are using a supported version of Microsoft Windows server
- Verify the compute platform for the selected database meets the minimum hardware requirements
- Verify the selected database is supported by VMware
- Create a service account for the VMware vCenter Server database
- Verify the VMware vCenter Server service account is a local administrator on the VMware vCenter server
- Verify the VMware vCenter Service service account has the log on as a service right on the VMware vCenter server
- Configure the ODBC DSN
- Determine if the VMware Platform Services Controller (PSC) will be an embedded or external deployment
Interactive Installation
Postinstallation
- Verify the vpxd, invsvc and vspherewebclientsvc services are configured with a Startup type: of Automatic and the Service status: is Running.
- Configure the VMware vSphere ESXi Dump Collector service to start at boot.
- Using a web browser navigate to https://HOSTNAME/vsphere-client
- Login using the the [email protected] account
- Configure the Message of the Day (MOTD)
